Trip Introduction

Naya Kanga Peak (5,844) is one of the most popular peaks in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Sometimes referred to as Ganga Chuli and located in the larger Langtang region. The peak is magnificently tall at 5,844 meters. The journey to New Kanga Peak will be one to remember because it will give us the opportunity to take in the breathtaking Himalayan region, see some of the world’s youngest mountains, and experience mountain life.

The quickest and least expensive peak to climb in Nepal is Naya Kanga, which can be reached in just 14 days. Naya Kanga Peak is situated just north of Kathmandu on the southern range of the stunning Langtang Valley, inside Nepal’s second-largest national park. Given that the Langtang Valley extends all the way to the border with Tibet, it is not surprise that Tibetan lineage and proximity have a significant impact on the local culture. Peaks around 6500 meters high frame the Langtang valley on the north, and smaller mountains between 5 and 6000 meters high frame it on the south. Naya Kanga is a range in the south.

You are surrounded by innumerable magnificent mountains in Nepal and Tibet from the top of Naya Kanga Peak. Facing north, you can see practically all of the peaks of the Lantang mass, including Langtang II, 6596 meters, and Lirung, 7246 meters. Turning east, you can see the adjacent Ganja La, 5122 meters, Ganchenpo, 6387 meters, Langshisa Ri, 6370 meters, and Pemthang Karpo Ri, 6830 meters.

The trail starts at Syabrubesi, 1505m, a spectacular 7-8 hours’ drive away from Kathmandu. The trail follows the Langtang valley. The lower valley’s sub-tropical forests are a mixed of rhododendron, fir, blue pine and birch, inhabited by wildlife such as leopard, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, rhesus and languor monkeys and the endangered red panda. As the elevation increases, the trees thin and the valley widens out for amazing views.Chortens line the path to Kyanjing Gompa 3970m, the site of an ancient Buddist monastery. Two peaks near Kyanjing are ideal for acclimatization. We will climb Kyangjin Ri, 4350m, or Tsergo Ri, 4983m, depending on our energy levels, and enjoy more fantastic views.

From Kyangjin Gompa the trail to Naya Kanga Peak goes south to Nayangang Kharka, 4300m, where we set up base camp. The ascent to the summit is made from the north-east face. The summit bid starts from high camp, 4950m. The snow and ice slopes get as steep as 50° below the summit ridge. After celebrating our achievement on the summit, we make our descent back to base camp.

After enjoying the rewards of such toiling efforts, you retrace your steps while descending back to Kyanji gompa.  By the finale of the trek/climbing, you will have tons of memories – pictures and experiences that will last until eternity.

The Naya kanga Peak is demanding and presents plenty of challenges. All climbers need to have good skills in rock and ice climbing and be capable to join this trek.
