According to the locals the main lake of Gosainkunda flows underground to emerge from a spring at the Kumbeshwar Temple in Patan. This holy site receives a great number of people during the festival of Janai Purnima celebrated in the month of August of every year. Janai Purnima also known as Raksha Bandhan is celebrate mostly among Hindus. On this occasion “Tagadhari Hindus” change their ‘Janai’ (a sacred thread) after shaving their hair and taking a dip in the ponds and river. People also recieve Raksha Bandhan a thread worn around the wrist often tied by the priest. ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is also regarded the festival of brother and sister, the sister tie the thread in the hand of their brother and wish for their long life and prosperity.
