Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) and Mardi Himal are two beautiful trekking destinations in the Annapurna region. This trek follows the Annapurna trail and offers a captivating view of the north-central Himalayan mountain range. The Annapurna mountain range spans over 34 miles and reaches an elevation of 26,500ft (8,091m) at its highest point.
Along the trail of this trek, you will see panoramic views of Annapurna I (8,091m), the 10th highest mountain in the world. Mardi Himal is a relatively new trekking trail in this region. This trail is more popular nowadays for short-route trekking.Local villagers primarily used the region as pasture land for yaks and sheep. Mardi being deep in the heart of the Annapurna region is a preferred destination for travelers with limited time. From the ridge of the Mardi Himal viewpoint, you can see the panoramic views of the Annapurna range.
The trail leading up to Mardi Himal is less commercialized with more pristine views of the mountains. In contrast, the ABC trail is often a bit crowded but offers intimate views of the surrounding mountain range. The distance from Pokhara city to Mardi Himal spans about 20 miles, whereas the journey to Annapurna Base Camp covers approximately 50 miles. The trail takes you through vibrant red rhododendron forests, cascading waterfalls, and dense pine forests. Along the trail, you come across picturesque villages such as Hile, Ulleri, a hub for the Magar/Gurung community, and others. Ghorepani, Poonhill, is renowned for its incredible sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. This popular vantage point is celebrated for its 360-degree panorama of Nepal’s majestic mountains. The trek seamlessly transitions between ethnic villages, where you will witness the traditional lifestyle of the Gurung and Magar communities.
The sacred Fishtail Mountain, seen from the various villages is a revered symbol of divinity and an integral part of the cultural heritage of the people here. Explore the quaint hillside settlements, and embrace the heart-warming hospitality and friendly nature of the locals. Every step will leave you with cherishable memories, wanting to visit again.
