Trip Introduction

Gokyo Valley trek is one of the most beautiful trekking destinations in Everest region which offers a dramatic view of Mount Everest (8848m) in the presence of natural flora and fauna. Located at close proximity to Tibet border, Gokyo Valley Trek lets you enjoy a stunning view of Makalu(8463m), Lhotse (8414m), Cho Oyu (8188m), and many other mountain peaks. With sublime views of tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu (8188m) and Gyachung (7952m), you can even experience the unique culture and tradition of theKhumbu region while walking past the sloppy landscapes and terraces.

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will spend a day on trek preparation and sightseeing. Our main trek starts from Lukla. After a short scenic flight of 35 minutes from Kathmandu, you’ll reach Lukla. Now, we’ll start our trek towards Phakding along with Dudh Koshi River crossing Sherpa village. After your arrival, you’ll ascend towards Namche Bazaar along with the view of Ama Dablam (6856m) and Kusum Khangkaru (6367m). The trail passes through Phortse Tenga and proceeds to Machhermo. Experiencing the lush vegetation of Sagarmatha National Park and ascending to Gokyo will be a pleasant one where you will get the view of three Gokyo Lakes which includes Longponga, Taujung, and Dudh Pokhari. After a hike to Gokyo Ri (5360m), you’ll descend towards the settlement of Dhole via Gokyo. Further dropping down, our route passes through beautiful and small yak-grazing settlements. You’ll finally reach Lukla via Namche from where you’ll take a flight back to Kathmandu. This adventurous trek gives you the pleasure of experiencing the wildlife and natural vegetation with a glorious view of snow-capped mountain peaks. March to May and September to December are the best time for this trekking.

Day To Day Itinerary

Day 1

After your arrival in the Capital City, Kathmandu, you’ll be greeted by one of our staffs at Tribhuvan International Airport. You’ll be driven to your respective hotel and you can rest for the rest of the day. For the night, you will stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2

Today is the day for Sightseeing and trek preparation. We will arrange a guide for sightseeing who will take you to UNESCO World Heritage sites which includes Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You’ll get to be acquainted with the rich history of these places at the golden age. You will even meet with your fellow climbers and start your trek preparation along with a discussion of the trek in the presence of a professional trekking guide. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3

Today you’ll be flying to Lukla from Kathmandu. It is 35 minutes scenic flight above mountains and hills. Once you reach Lukla, you’ll rest for a while and start your trek to Phakding along with Dudh Koshi River flowing on the edge. Moving forward, a stunning view of Mt. Nupla (5885m), Kusum Khangkaru (6367m), and Mount Kongde Range will certainly add to the excitement of the trek. Enjoying the lush vegetation along with the culture and tradition of Sherpa people, you’ll finally reach the settlement of Phakding. Overnight stay at Phakding.

Day 4

Following the valley of the Dudh Koshi River from Namche, you’ll slowly ascend towards the small town of Bengkarand continue aheadto the village of Monjo which is also known as the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park. After a steep climb, crossing beautiful waterfalls and suspension bridges, you’ll now march to Jorsalle. Walking along with the beautiful forest of Rhododendron and Pine, terraces and diverse landscape with fellow trekkers is a pleasant feeling in itself. You’ll finally reach Namche Bazaar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

Day 5

Today is the rest day so you can spend the day you see fit. Early in the morning, you can hike toKhumjung Valley through Syangboche airstrip which offers a splendid view of Nuptse (7861m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m), and Mount Everest (8848m). During the day, you can visit the local monasteries and roam around the local market to observe the unique culture and tradition of the Khumbu region. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar.

Day 6

On the sixth day, you’ll start your trek with frequent ups and downs route alongwith a very close view of Mt. Thamserku (6608m). The trail goes towards the alpine rhododendron forest and you’ll even encounter wildlife which may include Himalayan Tahr, Musk deer, Mountain Goats, and many more as you drop down to Sanasa. As we reach Mong La pass, one can see the glimpse of Taboche (6367m), Mt. Khumbila (5761m), and Ama Dablam (6856m). Finally crossing a bridge at Dudh KoshiRiver, you’ll finally reach the village of Phortse. Overnight stay at Phortse.

Day 7

After breakfast, you’ll start your trek to Dole through beautiful forest, wilderness, and waterfalls. As you climb up to Lhabarma from Dhole, a stunning view of Mt. Thamserku (6608m) and Cho Oyu (8188m) greets us. Now, the trail moves towards Luza. Passing through hills above thundering Dudh Koshi River and crossing some small hamlets, you’ll finally reach the last major settlement, Machhermo. Overnight stay at Machhermo.

Day 8

From Machhermo, you’ll climb through a ridge towards the settlement of Pangla. Along with stunning views of Cho Oyo (8188m) and Mt. Kangtega (6367m) on the way, you’ll walk towards the moraine of Ngozumpa Glacier which is the largest glacier of this region. With the amusement of beautiful wide forest of pine and lush vegetation, you’ll finally get a sublime view of three Gokyo Lakes which includes Longponga, Taujung Tsho, and Dudh Pokhari where you’ll be mesmerized by their crystal blue water sparkling amid the colossal Himalayas. Overnight stay at Gokyo.

Day 9

Today we start our hike to Gokyo Ri (5360m) early in the morning. As we climb upward, a panoramic view of Lhotse (8414m), Cho Oyo (8188m), Mount Everest (8848m), Makalu (8463m), and Taboche (6367m) cordially welcomes us to the region. After reaching the summit and enjoying the views of beautiful snow-capped mountain peaks, you’ll now return back to Gokyo Village. Overnight stay at Gokyo.

Day 10

After breakfast, you’ll now descend slowly towards Phang via Ngozumpa Glacier crossing numerous iron bridges. As we move downwards to Machhermo village, you’ll enjoy the sublime view of Cho Oyu (8188m) and Thamserku (6608m) along with the beautiful forest of rhododendron and juniper. Now, the trail proceeds to the charming helmet of Luza which finally leads the way towards the settlement of Dhole. Overnight stay at Dhole.

Day 11

Walking past the village of Phortse Tenga from Dhole along with eye-catching views of frozen waterfalls and blooming rhododendron, you’ll slowly descend towards the settlement of Chipcho via Mong La. You’ll now move towards Sanasa along with Imja Khola and Dudh Koshi River. The trail gives the pleasure of experiencing the culture and tradition of Sherpa people, wildlife and natural flora and fauna. Finally, you’ll reach the settlement of Namche crossing Khumjung village. Overnight stay at Namche Bazaar

Day 12

On the 12th day, you’ll be trekking to Lukla from Namche. At first, you’ll walk past the village of Jorsalle and move towards the small town of Chhamuwa and Bengkar. On the way back, you’ll cross the beautiful forest of Magnolia and fir, waterfalls and many suspension bridges. Finally descending down to the settlement of Monjo and thenPhakding along with Dudh Koshi River, you’ll march towards Lukla. Once you reach Lukla. Overnight stay at Lukla.

Day 13

On this day, you’ll be flying back to the Capital City, Kathmandu from Lukla. It is 35 minutes scenic flight above hills and mountain. Once you reach Kathmandu, you can spend the day as you see fit. You can roam around Thamel, buy a souvenir and even enjoy the nightlife. In the evening, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 14

We’ll drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport so that you can catch your scheduled flight back home. You’ll be dropped off two hours early at the airport and you can share your experience with us on the way.

The Trekking Group

For this trek there will be one leader, assistant leader (10 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and Sherpa porters for carrying luggage (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that should anybody in the group get sick, the trip can still go ahead as planned. We can run the trek for groups of any size but we after years of experience we have found a maximum of twelve people to be the optimum size for a successful trip. However, if you’d like to book this trip for a larger group then that can be arranged too.

Accommodations

We will be accommodated in Hotel arts, Apshara boutique or Similar in Kathmandu and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 270. Corporate Adventure treks rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
