Kanchenjunga (8,585m) is the world’s third tallest mountain and lies in the northeast of Nepal. The Kanchenjunga region is known for its pristine beauty. It is also not as crowded as its neighboring Everest region, making it favorable for those who like to trek to tranquil environments.
It is also one of the best off-beaten treks of the country, thus attracting adventurers and adrenaline seekers. Diverse flora and fauna accompany the rough terrain. Along with it, the cultures and warm hospitality of the local Limbu and Sherpa people add charms to this region.
After your arrival in Kathmandu, you go for sightseeing as well as prepare for the trek. You visit the famous landmarks like the Swayambhunath Temple and Kathmandu Durbar Square. You head to Thamel, where you can buy/rent necessary trekking items.
You fly east to Bhadrapur and then, drive to Suketar via Ilam. From there, you trek to the first destination, Lali Kharka. From here onwards, you trek along with various rustic and beautiful villages like Kade Bhanjyang, Sherpagaon, and Torongton. Tseram is the first village where you acclimatize.
Next, you head to Oktang viewpoint via Ramche. The viewpoint is one of the highlights of the trek because you can see amazing panoramas of the Kanchenjunga range. The next highlight is Pang Pema (Kanchenjunga North Basecamp). To reach here, you walk past various small and big settlement areas like Sele La, Kambachen and Lhonak. After exploring Pang Pema, you head back to Suketar via Ghunsa, Gyabla, and Taplethok.
Then you head down to Kanyam to enjoy the tea gardens. With this, the Kanchenjunga Basecamp Trek comes to an end. The best time to do this trek is during autumn (September-November) and spring (March-May) seasons.

As per your scheduled flight, you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. There, our staff will
be waiting to welcome you warmly. Then, you head to the hotel with them. After refreshing and
resting, you meet them again at dinner and discuss the details of the trip.
Today, you sightsee a few of the major landmarks of Kathmandu as well as prepare for the
trek. After breakfast, you head to Swayambhunath Temple, also called the Monkey Temple.
Here, you visit the monastery and see the amazing panorama of the valley.
Next, you head to Boudhanath Stupa, which is the largest spherical stupa in Nepal. Here too,
you visit monasteries and explore the local market. You have a Tibetan style lunch. Finally, you
head to the last destination, Kathmandu Durbar Square, which tells the history of the city’s
civilization. Then, you can head to Thamel to buy/rent the necessary items for the trek.
Duration: 40 minutes Fly and 4 hours drive
After breakfast, you head to the domestic airport and catch an early flight to Bhadrapur, which lies in the southeast. En flight, you can see amazing views of the hills and mountains. Then, from Bhadrapur, you board the vehicle heading to Ilam. The drive takes you through flatlands and slowly towards beautiful tea gardens. The weather gets a bit cold as you approach Ilam through the winding roads. Overnight stay at lodge in Ilam.
Duration: 4 hours drive 3 hours trek
After breakfast, you board the vehicle heading to Suketar, Taplejung. The drive today also goes through winding roads, and you can see the amazing hill landscape. After a pleasant drive, you arrive in the main town of Taplejung. After resting and having lunch here, you head to Suketar and start the trek. The trail descends from Suketar and goes through pleasant sceneries of the landscape. Then you reach Lali Kharka and set up tents for the overnight stay.
Duration: 4 hours trek
After breakfast, you clean up and head downhill through some small villages. The trail then links to Pa Khola, which you cross after passing through Simbu village. Then, the trail goes uphill through various settlement areas. After a couple of hours, you reach Kade Bhanjyang, a small settlement area with few teahouses. Overnight stay at Kade Bhanjyang.
Duration: 5-6 hours trek
You hit the trail after breakfast. The route goes uphill in the beginning and gradually descends to Khesewa. From there, you continue to go downhill to a stream. Then, the route goes through a series of ascends and descends. You reach Phulung village after a sharp ascend. Again, you go downhill, winding through terraced lands and villages. You finally reach to the top of a ridge, from where you reach Phumphe Danda for the overnight stay.
Duration: 6 - 7 hours
After breakfast, you hit the trail heading to Sherpagaon. The trail first descends and then goes uphill towards Mamankhe village. From this village, the trail passes through a series of ridges. The trek goes through dense forests, so you get to enjoy the coolness of the trees. After crossing the last ridge, you come to a wide valley of Thungim. From the valley, the next stop is Sherpagaon, where you stay overnight.
Duration: 5 hours trek
After breakfast, you begin the trek by ascending through dense forests of bamboos and rhododendron. After crossing the forested area, you arrive at flatlands. The trail continues through the flatland for a couple of hours. From Lashe Bhanjyang, you descend and then ascend to the Torongton River. Following the river, you arrive at Torongton village for an overnight stay.
Duration: 6-7 hours trek
Today, most of the trek will comprise of steep ascends. After breakfast, you head north and follow the Sinuwa Khola. You climb several slopes through dense rhododendron forests and ridges. You continue to ascend and reach Anda Phedi. From here, the next village is Tseram, where you stay overnight.
Today is the first acclimatization of the trek. Since you have trekked to 3000m and above, your body needs to familiarize itself with the increasing altitude. Tseram is a Limbu village, so today you can learn and explore more about their culture. You can also head to the surrounding areas to explore the beauty of the region.
Duration: 6- 7 hours trek
After breakfast, you walk through thick pine forests and ascend to a wide valley of pastureland. You may get to see yaks and yak herders. If you want, you can try yak milk and other products like cheese in this area. Then, you walk through the ridges to arrive at Ramche. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Duration: 7 hours trek
The trail today heads deep into the valley and then ascends to a ridge that separates Yalung Kang Glacier and the rest of the cliffs. As you continue the trek, mountains like Kabru and Rathong come into view.
The valley open ups to meadows and the views are filled with spectacular sceneries of the Kanchenjunga range. At the end of the trail lies Oktang viewpoint, from where you can see Kanchenjunga and the neighboring mountains up close. After soaking in the view, you head back to Tseram for the overnight stay.
Duration: 7 hours trek
After breakfast, you hit the trail that goes through rocky terrain. You then ascend steeply for about 3-4 hours and then descend for a short while. Again, you ascend and after a short while, you can see glimpses of Mt. Makalu. After a series of ascends and descends, you navigate through a winding rocky trail. Finally, you reach a stream and following it you arrive at Sele La shortly for overnight stay.
Duration: 4 hours trek
The trek today is relatively shorter. After breakfast, you hit the trail that goes through pine forests. The trail today is filled with prayer flags. The rocky trail continues and then you descend to a rhododendron forest. Then, you reach a wide valley that homes Ghunsa. It is one of the biggest villages in the region. Overnight stay at a lodge.
Duration: 5 hours trek
After breakfast, you trek along the banks of Ghunsa Khola. The trail is relatively easy but there are certain parts, which are prone to landslide. After crossing Ghunsa Khola, you reach a waterfall and then pass a steep ascend. En route, you get to see the splendid views of Jannu, also called Kumbakarna. Then, you sharply descend to a wider valley and then head to Kambachen, where you stay overnight.
Duration: 5-6 hours trek
You start the trek after breakfast. The trail today is rocky, and you also walk past glacial areas, so it may be slippery at times. Then, you walk through an eroded area and pass a waterfall.
You climb into a wider valley, which presents panoramic views of Kanchenjunga and the neighboring mountains. The trail goes through flatlands and at one point, you ascend to a narrow valley. From there, you cross a river to reach Lhonak for the overnight stay. It is a village-like Kambachen, but smaller. From the village, you can see amazing views of smaller peaks like Mera and Kirat Chuli.
Duration: 6-7 hours trek
After breakfast, you head towards Pang Pema, also called Kanchenjunga North Basecamp. The trail continues through the valley surrounded by peaks. The trail gets rocky, and you pass a series of ascends and descends. Some parts are landslide-prone, so you need to be careful.
At the end of the rocky glacier-filled trail, you reach Pang Pema. The panoramic views of the mountains and landscape are breathtaking from here. Then, you head back to Lhonak for the overnight stay.
Duration: 5 hours
After breakfast, you trace back the route to Ghunsa. The trail goes through the same forests and flatlands you walked to reach Pang Pema. En route, you get to see glimpses of mountains like Kanchenjunga and Jannu. Before nightfall, you reach Ghunsa for the overnight stay.
Duration: 4-5 hours trek
After breakfast, you descend to Gyabla. The trail goes through pine and juniper forests after crossing the Ghunsa River. Then, you descend to another forested area filled with bamboos and rhododendrons. The trail leads to Phole, a Tibetan village and from there you come across meadows. Finally, you reach Gyabla for an overnight stay.
Duration: 4 hours trek
Today, the trail consists of a series of ascends and descends. You continue the trail that goes through the bamboo and rhododendron forests. En route, you pass by small settlement areas. After the final descend, you reach Amjilosa, a Tibetan village, for the overnight stay.
Duration: 5-6 hours trek
After breakfast, you hit the trail that goes along the river. You walk through dense rhododendron forests and come across many small settlement areas. Then, you reach Sekathum. From Sekathum, Taplethok is within a few kilometers distance. Taplethok is the last village within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area as you head back. Overnight stay at a lodge.
Duration: 6 hours trek
Today, you head to the lower elevations. After breakfast, the trail goes through flatlands and serene landscapes. You pass by various Limbu villages and towards Taplejung via Chiruwa. You then head to Linkhim, and if you have time, you can go further up to Phurumbu. Overnight stay at a teahouse.
Duration: 4 hours trek
After breakfast, you head to Suketar. The trail today may be the easiest throughout the trek. Enjoy the landscape and sceneries as much as you can because it is the last day you trek in the Kanchenjunga region. At the end of the trail, you arrive at Suketar for the overnight stay.
Duration: 4 hours drive
After breakfast, you head to Kanyam, which is famous for its lovely tea gardens. You board the vehicle and drive along the winding roads. En route, you can see amazing views of the hills. By lunchtime, you reach Kanyam. You explore the tea gardens and know more about the tea through the locals. You can also ride horses if you want. Overnight stay at a hotel.
Duration: 3 hours drive and 40 minutes fly
After breakfast, you depart to Bhadrapur via road. You reach the airport to catch your scheduled flight to Kathmandu.
This is your last day in Nepal. Our staff will drop you off at the airport as per your scheduled flight. Please make sure that you have all your belongings with you before you depart.
