Day To Day Itinerary

  • Arrival On: Kailash Mansarovar
  • Departure from: Kathmandu

Day 1

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the Nepal Tibet border, offering stunning views of the Himalayas. After completing immigration formalities, you will meet your Tibetan guide and driver before heading to Kyirung. This picturesque town serves as the gateway to the Tibetan Plateau and offers a glimpse into the local way of life.

Day 2

Take a day to acclimatize to the high altitude in Kyirung. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring the town and soaking in the stunning mountain views. Rest for the day as it is essential to prepare your body for the upcoming journey into the high Himalayas.

Day 3

Embark on a long drive through the desert terrain, passing nomad camps and herds of sheep and yak. Admire the views of Mount Gaurishankar, Shishapangma and Langtang Himal from the pass. Drive through Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen and Peiku Tso Lake (4400m), crossing the Brahmaputra River to reach Saga (4600m).

Day 4

Drive through the small town of Zhongba before reaching Paryang offering the first view of Mount Kailash and the Holy Lake Manasarovar. Spend some peaceful hours at the shores of the lake with the majestic Mount Kailash in the background. Rest for the night at a guesthouse surrounded by the serene beauty of the lake and mountains.

Day 5

After a peaceful stay at Lake Manasarovar drive to Darchen the base for the Mount Kailash kora (circumambulation). The drive offers stunning views of the snow-capped peaks and pristine landscapes of the region. Darchen serves as the starting point for the kora a sacred pilgrimage that takes you around the base of Mount Kailash.

Note: The kora is 53 km in total and completed in three days.

Day 6

Embark on an exciting trek along rocky cliffs and waterfalls with clear blue skies overhead. The trek to Dira-Puk offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. Spend the night at a guesthouse, surrounded by the natural beauty of the region.

Day 7

Experience the hardest but holiest day of your pilgrimage trek as you cross the Dolma La pass. The pass offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys with prayer flags fluttering in the wind. After crossing the pass descend to Zuthul Puk, where you can explore the caves and monasteries associated with the great Tibetan saint Milarepa. Here, Milarepa is said to have performed miracles.

Day 8

Return to Kyirung, where you can relax and unwind after the challenging but rewarding journey. Overnight at a guesthouse in Kyirung, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the Tibetan Plateau.
