The “Mustang Tiji Festival Jeep Tour” offers an immersive experience into the centuries-old Tiji Festival celebrated by the people of Upper Mustang. As you explore Mustang in a 4WD vehicle, you’ll traverse deep gorges, barren landscapes, and enjoy breathtaking mountain views.

Celebrated annually in Lo Manthang, the Tiji Festival, rooted in Tibetan Buddhism, spans three vibrant days and commemorates the triumph of good over evil. The festival features colorful masked dances and ancient rituals honoring the deity Dorje Jono, who fought against evil forces. Rich in cultural significance, the Tiji Festival attracts visitors worldwide, eager to witness its unique blend of history, spirituality, and celebration. Immerse yourself in the mesmerizing festivities and experience Mustang’s deep cultural heritage.

Held according to the Tibetan Lunar calendar, the Tiji Festival takes place in the third month of the Gregorian calendar (May). In 2025, the Tiji Festival will take place on May 24th, 25th, and 26th in the square in front of the Mustang King’s Palace (Tashi Gephel Palace) within the walled city of Lo Manthang.

Day To Day Itinerary

  • Arrival On: Kathmandu
  • Departure from: Tribhuwan International Airport.

Day 1

Upon your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by the representatives of Corporate Adventure Treks. Shortly after, you will be driven to the hotel according to your bookings. After settling in we will be conducting a small briefing of the trip.

Day 2

Our team will be ready for your flight/drive to Pokhara from the domestic terminal of Tribhuwan International Airport/ hotel. Upon arrival in Pokhara Airport our team will drive you to the hotel. During our first day we will have the rest of the day for sight-seeing tour around Pokhara City.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Enjoy the views of the Capital City Kathmandu, Himalayan Mountain and Pokhara during the flight.
  • Visit Pokhara the Tourism Capital of Nepal and gateway to various adventurous trekking routes.
  • Visit World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) towering at a height of 3,608ft (1100m) above Fewa Taal.
  • Visit David’s Fall or Mahendra Cave.
  • Relaxing with the vibrant sights around  Lakeside in the evening.
  • Boating and other miscellaneous activities around Fewa Lake.

Day 3

We begin our day with a warm breakfast in the hotel overlooking a breathtaking view of the sunrise in the horizon of Mount Machhapuchhre. Taking a short drive of 5 hrs along the winding roads while enjoying the views of mountains, local lifestyle, farms, and river gorges etc. Upon reaching Tatopani we can unwind and relax in the natural hot springs in the area.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Sunrise from the hills on the way to Tatopani.
  • Adventurous drive at Kaligandaki Gorges.
  • Natural hot spring dip or Meditation.

Day 4

Early morning we leave for Kagbeni which is at an elevation of 2,804m. We will be visiting Marpha village, Muktinath Temple and local market of Jomsom. Muktinath Temple a placeof religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhist. After exploring various places and totaling a ride of around 80kms we end our journey of the day and head back to Kagbeni.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Mesmerising Rupse Waterfall.
  • Strolling around the local market of Jomsom, Marpha village and Kagbeni.
  • Breathtaking landscape of Nilgiri along the route of Kagbeni.
  • Muktinath temple, a sacred place reflecting peace among both pilgrims.
  • Burning fire at Jal Devi with both some natural gas.

Day 5

After finishing the permit checking formalities at Kagbeni. We will explore the monasteries and the school for monks. Visiting villages like Chelle, Samar, Ghiling etc along the route. We reach our destination of the day Dhakmaar.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Man-made sky caves and redish-orange cliffs.
  • Amazing lifestyle and culture of the locals.
  • Observe Tibetan Plateau and vast arid landscapes.

Day 6

We will be visiting Nepal’s oldest Monastery Lo-Ghar gumpa and then journey towards Lomanthang. Witnessing various Tibetan plateaus, sky caves and towering caves.

After the brunch we will be going to the King’s palace to celebrate Tiji Festival. Bearing witness, the vibrant masked dancing ritual by the Tibetan monks. Ending the festival for the day we will return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

Visit Lo Gyagar Ghar Gumba, one of the oldest Gumba from 8th 8th century.

  • Admire the forbidden walled kingdom of Lomanthang from afar.
  • Visit the Kings Palace.
  • Celebrate Tiji festival along with the locals.
  • Observe the vibrant masked cultural dance of Tiji Festival.

Day 7

As the festival starts around noon, we head towards Chhoser village early morning, a short drive of an hour from Lomanthang. We may be lucky enough to see blue sheep and other wildlife too. In Chhoser, we’ll explore the Buddhist school and the sky caves. After the exploration of Chhoser, we will return to Lomanthang for the second day of Tiji Festival. After Tiji, we will go for dinner in the hotel and overnight stay.

DAY HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Visit Chhoser
  • Visit Nyiphug Namdrol Norbuling Monastery constructed on cliffs.
  • Explore the Shija Jhong Cave.
  • Have Torma (Ritual Cakes) and celebrate with the locals.

Day 8

The last and final day of Tiji Festival. We will explore Buddhist school and monasteries and will have a good sightseeing around the village. After 12 pm we will be joining the locals to celebrate the final day of Tiji. After interacting and celebrating with the locals, observing the dances and rituals we will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

  • Experience the Lifestyle of the locals of Mustang.
  • Celebrate Tiji Festival with the local people.
  • Participation in the closing ceremony of Tiji Festival.

Day 9

Retracing the trails back to Jomsom we will pass the same alluring village of Tsarang, Ghami, Ghiling, Samar and drive to Kagbeni. After the usual permit checks, we will drive back to Jomsom. Upon reaching Jomsom respective rooms will be assigned. Then, we can explore the market area of Jomsom until Dinner. Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 10

After an early morning breakfast at Jomson we drive back to Pokhara while following the same route used to reach Jomsom. The benefits of returning via same route is that we can stop by and view the places we liked.

Day 11

A flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu will take around 25 minutes whereas driving by road will take around 6 hours. Upon arriving in Kathmandu, we can relax in the evening and enjoy the night buffet making the trip even more memorable.

Day 12

Shopping around the local markets and make preparation for final departure. After a short farewell ceremony, our Team will handle the logistic and accompany you to the airport in a private vehicle for your final departure.
