If you have ample time, you can take an optional exploration tour of the historic city, Bhaktapur.

Day To Day Itinerary

Day 1

Pashupatinath Temple.

Our first destination is Pashupatinath Temple, located near the outskirts of Kathmandu on the banks of Bagmati river. As we approach the temple complex, the aroma of incense and the sound of temple bells fill the air, creating a mystical ambiance. Pashupatinath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is considered one of the holiest Hindu temples globally.

Within the temple complex, you’ll explore ancient shrines, ashrams and courtyards adorned with intricate wood carvings and statues. Witness the open cremation ceremonies along the banks of the sacred Bagmati River, a deeply spiritual experience that offers insights into Hindu beliefs about life and death. In the evening you can experience Arati, a ritual practised every evening by the temple priest. Have an immersive experience along with hundreds of devotees present.

 Sanga

Departing from Kathmandu head towards Sanga, approximately 20 kilometres east of the city. Sanga is home to the majestic statue of Lord Shiva, towering over the lush hills of the Kathmandu Valley. The drive itself offers stunning views of terraced fields and traditional Nepali villages.

Upon arrival, you’ll ascend to the base of the statue, where you can marvel at its intricate details and colossal size. The viewpoint here offers a panoramic vista of the entire Kathmandu Valley, a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

 Doleshwor Mahadev.

From Sanga, we continue our journey towards Doleshwor Mahadev, located at Bhaktapur. This sacred site is revered by Hindus as the head of Kedarnath, making it an essential pilgrimage destination for devotees. The temple’s architecture reflects traditional Newari architecture, with fine woodwork complete with a pagoda-style design. The architectural marvel of the temple is a monument to the rich legacy of Nepal’s ancient history. The temple is built mostly of wood, you can see the intricate carving in the wooden pillars and support beams. Within the premises you can find a huge Trishul made out of brass, a spear like weapon of Lord Shiva. Visitors often participate in religious rituals and prayers, soaking in the spiritual atmosphere that permeates the area. The serene surroundings and the history associated with Doleshwor Mahadev provide a glimpse into Nepal’s deep-rooted religious traditions.

 

Optional Bhaktapur City.

For those opting to extend their tour, a visit to Bhaktapur promises to transport you back in time to the medieval era of Nepal. Here you can find many temples dedicated to the God and Goddesses of Hindu mythology. This well-preserved city is a living museum of Newar culture and architecture, characterized by its brick-paved streets, ancient temples and courtyards.

Explore Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you can admire the intricately carved peacock window at the Palace of 55 Windows and the golden gate of the Royal Palace. Don’t miss the Nyatapola Temple, dedicated to the goddess Siddhi Lakshmi, which stands as a testament to Newar craftsmanship and architectural finesse.
