Trip Introduction

The Manaslu Circuit trek via Barpak is a classic adventure trek that combines remote wilderness with the traditional life of the local Tibetan people. The off-the-beaten trail located in the isolated Himalayas is quite challenging and adventurous. This 15-day Manaslu Circuit via Barpak trail takes you further inwards towards the unseen part of the Nepalese Himalayas.

Barpak Village:

The journey starts from Barpak, a small mountaintop village in the Gorkha district. This village lies on the old trail to the Manaslu region. The village was the epicentre of Nepal’s devastating 2015 earthquake. The village is now rebuilt and open for tourism. The Ghales, considered aristocrats among the larger Gurung group, along with the Sunwars and Damais, are the locals in this region. Barpak once served as the stronghold of the Ghale Kings, who controlled the trade route weaving through the Budhi Gandaki valley.

Larpak Village:

Larpak, a village in the Gorkha district follows the trail after Barpak. The village community is mostly inhabited by Gurungs, with a small number of Sunars. The village lies at an elevation of 2,200m (7,200ft) above sea level and is approximately 70km away from Gorkha Bazar. Untouched by modernity, the locals in these villages have been following the same practices and lifestyles followed by their ancestors. This less-traveled route is perfect for travelers and individuals wanting to explore the newer routes while seeking peace and an authentic experience with the locals. Along the trails, you will encounter diverse landscapes like farming terraced fields, subtropical forests, glacial moraines, and alpine meadows.

The trek is rich in cultural immersion, passing through ancient Tibetan Buddhist villages where ancient traditions thrive. Local hospitality and teahouse accommodations add to the charm of this trek, creating a warm and inviting experience.

Trekking in the Manaslu region recently opened its doors to tourists and travelers in 1991. This region is famous for its off-the-beaten trail. Manaslu circuit is less crowded than the Annapurna region and even less crowded than the more famous Everest region. You can trek to this region in any season.

However, the best time to travel to the Manaslu region is during the Spring & Autumn seasons.  During this season, experience the grandeur view of the mighty mountains.
